Restoration Efforts for Richey Suncoast Theatre
The Richey Suncoast Theatre in New Port Richey, a historic venue nearing its centennial, is undergoing restoration efforts to preserve its legacy as a cultural hub. Recently, a benefit concert featuring Ed Roland of Collective Soul successfully raised over $42,000 to support these initiatives. Lia Gallegos, interim president of the theatre's board, emphasized the importance of the venue to the community, describing it as a vital space for artistic expression and skill development.
Board member Angela Sarabia highlighted the theatre's rich history, noting its original purpose of showcasing films from early cinema star Thomas Meighan. As part of the renovation plans, enhancements will include hurricane-proofing windows and doors to ensure the theatre's longevity against future storms. The restoration aims to attract audiences from beyond the local area, enhancing downtown New Port Richey's appeal. Renovations are set to commence with the roof in January, followed by exterior improvements.
Collective Soul Orlando Concert reviews
Great Venue and Performance
The show was great. The venue was great. The only part that had room for improvement was whomever was running the mix that evening. Kick and snare drum could hear and sounded fantastic. Vocals sounded fantastic. Bass, yep, it was present. Guitars and cymbals…well this is where it was a little disappointing, they were REALLY low in the mix and sounded like they were coming through a thick, wet blanket. I would venture to say the sound person has low frequency hearing loss and had the drums/bass turned up to compensate for the hearing deficiency. Still a great concert!
